Counselling for young people

Counselling for teenagers in Farnborough & online

Being a teenager can be a lot. School pressure, exams, friendships that shift, family changes, and figuring out who you are — sometimes all at once. I offer counselling for young people aged 14 and over, in person in Farnborough or online, giving them a calm, private space to talk things through with someone outside of family and school.

If you're a parent reading this on behalf of your son or daughter — or a young person reading it for yourself — you're both welcome here.

What teenagers bring to counselling

Every young person is different, but some of the things we might work on together include:

  • Anxiety, worry, or panic that's hard to switch off
  • Stress around school, exams, or the pressure to keep up
  • Low mood, or feeling flat and unmotivated
  • Friendship difficulties and falling out with people
  • The impact of bullying, whether recent or in the past
  • Family changes such as separation, divorce, or a new home
  • Exploring identity or sexuality in a safe, accepting space
  • Grief and losing someone important
  • Feeling overwhelmed without being sure why

There doesn't need to be a "big enough" reason. If something is weighing on them, that's reason enough.

How I work with young people

Sessions with teenagers work at their pace, always. I'm not a teacher, and I'm not there to report back or tell them what to do. My role is to listen without judgement and help them make sense of what's going on — which for many young people is the first time they've had a space like that.

Some teenagers arrive chatty and know exactly what they want to talk about. Others are quiet at first, or come mostly because a parent suggested it. Both are completely fine. Trust builds over time, and there's never any pressure to share more than they're ready to.

I'm a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I hold a full DBS certificate, and I'm insured for private practice.

A note for parents: how confidentiality works

For counselling to work, a young person needs to know their sessions are private — so what they share with me stays between us, within the BACP ethical framework. I know that can feel hard as a parent, and I'll always explain clearly to both of you how confidentiality works and its limits before we begin. If I were ever worried about a young person's safety, keeping them safe comes first, and I'll be open about how that works.

What I can promise is that you'll be part of the beginning: the free introductory call is a chance for you and your teenager to ask questions and see whether I'm the right fit.

Practical details

Sessions last one hour and cost £50, in person in Farnborough or online. Farnborough is within easy reach of Aldershot, Fleet, Frimley, Camberley and Farnham. I can offer after-school and early-evening times, as well as Saturday mornings.

The first step is a free 30 minute introduction — parents and young people are both welcome on that call.

I also offer anxiety counselling and grief and bereavement counselling.
